An Open Letter to March Madness Marching Band Contributors

First off I just want to say, It makes me ridiculously uncomfortable asking people for money.

With that said, I sent a version of this letter to KC Crosby of the Lexington City Council yesterday after she helped to spearhead an effort to get March Madness Marching Band some much needed funds for our trip to Austin for HONK! TX.

Mostly I wanted to share it with everyone so that if you have already contributed I could thank you. You’re helping to make a really cool and very special dream come true for a lot of people, myself included. If you haven’t and may have been thinking about it I hope I can give you a few more reasons to.

Dear Contributors,

I cannot thank you enough for helping the March Madness Marching Band with some needed funds for our trip to Austin for the Honk! TX festival. I’ve been a member of the band for a little over a year now and in that time I’ve made some amazing friends, played some incredible music and been a part of something that puts a lot of smiles on people’s faces. To say that I lead a charmed life and that March Madness has been a blessing to me would be a severe understatement.

It’s been an absolute honor to serve my community in such a way that allows me to play drums, act like an absolute goof and dress like a 3 year old playing super hero (some of my favorite things to do) and I’m very glad to see some support from our Council and fellow members of the community as we try to take some of our Kentucky spirit and pride on the road. I promise that this will not be a decision that you will regret as we plan to represent Lexington to the best of our abilities as we try to make Austin a little weirder place to be. I will wear my super hero mask and towel-cape with pride knowing that you are all with us in spirit as well.

Thanks again,
- Ben “Dr. Benis” Parks
